2025-2026 Commit Retrospection - Pranav Santhosh

Overview

This page is a copy-paste ready retrospective for my 2025-2026 work. Every claim below has an evidence link back to the exact commit that introduced it, so the page is easy to audit and easy to expand later.

My Git history in the local workspace appears under two author labels, SanPranav and Pranav Santhosh, so both names are preserved in the ledger below.

Year at a Glance

Repo Matching commits found locally Main theme
pages-fork 60 Portfolio pages, calendar UI, frontend polish, and cross-project wiring

CSS 113 Objective Matrix

The table below uses the commits that best demonstrate each objective. Some rows cite supporting commits from the broader project history when the final calendar system depended on team code as well as my own commits.

Objective What I demonstrated Evidence
Data Structures Modeled calendar issues, timeline entries, and routed data through backend objects instead of hardcoded page state. 46c22dea, 8bcb15a96
Collections Used controller-level lists, maps, and repository lookups to organize calendar, comment, and email data. 6b248322, 36bbf60f
Lists / Queues Built ordered flows for calendar issues and pathway timeline sequencing instead of treating everything as one flat feed. 46c22dea, 8bcb15a96
OOP / MVC Separated controllers, services, repositories, and models so the calendar stayed maintainable as it grew. 46c22dea, 6b248322
Algorithms Built timeline coordination and calendar linking logic that depended on ordering, filtering, and state transitions. 8bcb15a96, 33c47dea
Version Control Kept work in small, traceable commits across both repos, which makes the project easy to audit. a74d757b, 36bbf60f
Testing Added and updated test coverage when the email/comment/calendar flow changed. 6b248322, a71bb3aa
Build Tools Used the repo build workflow, Makefile-based iteration, and Spring build config to keep the project runnable. 8232a3c2, 857bb2a1
Debugging Iterated through broken states until the calendar/email flow worked cleanly. 1a06320e, 2452ab69
API Development Built REST endpoints for calendar issues, comments, and face registration. 46c22dea, 6b248322, dcac2ba0
Database Integration Persisted calendar issues, comments, and analytics records through repository-backed models. 46c22dea, 156b9d45
Deployment / Local Preview Kept the site and backend previewable locally with the same docs and config that support the actual build flow. 8232a3c2, e54fac9d
Documentation Wrote and updated supporting docs, notes, and authoring instructions as the project changed. 8232a3c2, a71bb3aa
Blog Portfolio Maintained a detailed markdown portfolio that shows the progression of the work over time. ea1763fa, c0539b2c
Project Impact Built a calendar system that connects the student UI, backend services, and game flow into one coordinated experience. 8bcb15a96, 36bbf60f
Ethical Considerations Protected sensitive flows by tightening access, separating endpoints, and reducing exposure of student data. 6b248322, dcac2ba0

Main Project Highlight: Calendar

The strongest thread in my 2025-2026 work is the calendar system. It is not just a visual page. It became a shared coordination layer between the student-facing UI, the Spring backend, the email/comment pipeline, and the game flow. That is why it deserves the main spotlight.

1. The calendar starts as a real data model, not a mockup

The first major step was building the actual CalendarIssue backend instead of faking the page state. That work introduced the issue model, controller, repository, status, and priority types in 46c22dea. After that, I extended the behavior with requested features and comment support in 36bbf60f and then tightened the service/controller flow again in 1a06320e and 9ea6a037.

2. The UI evolved into an actual authored experience

The markdown preview and author attribution landed in 49f2bed6, which made the calendar feel like an editorial workflow instead of a static list. On the pages side, the same theme kept moving forward through c0539b2c, ea1763fa, ffd236ce, 54a1caf5, and b1bc51bb.

3. Styling was treated as a system, not a decoration pass

I pushed the calendar styling into _sass/open-coding/calendar.scss and then kept tightening it through 8232a3c2, 506442114, 29caaceb, a6be1e64, and af0dea2de. The later cleanup in 54a1caf5 and b1bc51bb helped keep the page readable as the feature set grew.

4. The backend moved from issue tracking into notifications and collaboration

Once the calendar existed, I extended it with comments and email-driven interactions. The important backend jump is 6b248322, which added the comment API, email service changes, and test coverage. That work was stabilized in a71bb3aa, 857bb2a1, d0d5cdee, and 33c47dea.

5. The calendar finally connected to the game layer

The most distinctive part of the project is the bridge from the calendar into the game and pathway systems. That bridge appears in 8b64ce4ac, which tried the calendar-to-game link, and then in 8bcb15a96, which fully integrated the personal calendar timeline with the student calendar UI. The supporting path continues through PathwayCalendarApi.js, PathwayCalendarCoordinator.js, PathwayTimelineBuilder.js, and GameLevelCsPath0Forge.js in that commit.

6. The result is a real portfolio system, not a single feature

The calendar work now spans content, appearance, backend behavior, and game-based presentation. That is why it is my main highlight. The commit trail shows the progression clearly: model first, then authoring, then styling, then notifications, then game integration.

Notes on the Evidence

The calendar highlight above is intentionally broad because the feature spans multiple repos and multiple layers. The evidence trail starts with the Spring backend model and controller work, continues through markdown preview and styling on the pages side, and ends with the calendar-to-game bridge.

The image slots are deliberately placeholders. If you want the page to feel more like a polished blog post, replace each placeholder with a real screenshot taken from the current state of the project after the matching commit era.

The local history I inspected did not show matching SanPranav commits in Pranav-flask during this window, so I left that section as an image slot instead of inventing a commit trail that is not there.
